Over time it has become one of the go-to minerals for many appliances and consumer items due to its unique thermal and electrical properties and its mechanical properties, which allow it to be cut, punched, stamped, and machined to close tolerances.

Rigid Sheet Mica
Rigid sheet mica is also widely used in household appliances and other products requiring an electrical heating element for rapid heat production and convective heat transfer. This heating process involves wound nichrome wire. Mica sheet forms the rigid insulation plate for this wire. These appliances include items such as band heaters, irons, toasters, convection ovens and hairdryers. Mica sheet is transparent to high frequency radio waves and is employed as a window in microwave ovens to protect the clystron from the moisture of the heated food products.
